The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for... Northern Lee County in northeastern Mississippi... Northwestern Pontotoc County in northeastern Mississippi... Prentiss County in northeastern Mississippi... Southern Tippah County in northeastern Mississippi... Union County in northeastern Mississippi... * Until 600 PM CDT. * At 255 PM CDT, the public reported widespread flash flooding due to thunderstorms in the warned area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen, with localized higher amounts. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches per hour. Additional rainfall amounts up to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Public reported. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Booneville, New Albany, Pontotoc, Ripley, Baldwyn, Saltillo, Guntown, Blue Mountain, Ecru, Jumpertown, Keownville, New Harmony, Blair, Wheeler, Pratts Friendship, Etta, Pinedale, Randolph, Thrashers and Sherman. Significant flash flooding has been observed in Union County, specifically in New Albany and west of Myrtle.
